POPULAR

A lot of posters here (including me) could really do a better job of posting about shooting. Some of the people here that actually post substantively about shooting get nothing but shit on. It kind of makes things a waste of time. At this point, the only way I can even tolerably navigate this forum is via very heavy use of the "ignore" feature. I don't ever see the majority of posts on this forum because I have gotten pretty quick to ignore users that don't have anything to say or are malicious or are stupid (or some combination of the above)

I have wanted to post this for a long time, but I haven't because the likely result is just me being shit on. On the other hand, I am apparently the only person that this message can come from.

I would really really really like to see shooting discussed on here. I would like to see USPSA politics talked about. I would like to see IDPA rules made fun of.

For example, I am tired of Team Glock jokes. That shit was played out in 2011. It is completely baffling to me that a few of you choose to relentlessly troll on the few posters that keep range diaries on here and actually shoot.

I am perfectly happy to continue podcasting and not posting much, but after talking with several members (face to face) of this forum I decided to try to push the forum in a better direction.

Just to clarify, I am not going to shut the forum down. I am not personally offended by stuff posted here. That being said, most threads on here are completely useless. We have had a few threads that have been immensely valuable. Running Paul Hendrix out of the sport on rails was a good thing. Being the only relevant place where you can actually have an open discussion about the USPSA political situation is a good thing.

Most of the people from this forum I have actually met are pretty good people. You guys (as a group) have been really good to me. The pro shop is a success, I spend most of my time traveling around and putting on classes that are attended largely by forum members. I know that most of you (probably the ones that don't post much) are tired of the guys acting fucked up on here. You aren't butthurt... you aren't trolled... you just read right past it.

It is white noise.

I think the signal to noise ratio should change.

Fucking A men.

Clowning around is one thing, but shitting on people working to get better is a shitbag move.

Tits are great. Asses, also great. But I can get that shit on youporn. I don't really need it here.

It really would be nice if the serious "getting gooder at shooting" talk were more prominent, and the trolling done on the more deserving targets elsewhere.

I couldn't agree more!
I love having the outlet to share ideas, discussions, videos and input. I'd love it more if it were more prominent here and didn't include so much of the GFY attitudes.

I can take the hazing as well as anybody, but it's getting hard to differentiate between resentment and playful banter at times.

MFCEO, truer words could not have been spoken!
I applaud the message and certainly support it!

Trolling, rude, crude, and worthless talk was the thing for some time.  But one could still sift through it and find useful shooting information....but it has gotten worse and that info harder to find.  As Doodie has become more popular cuckolded turds have come here and misinterpreted the freewheeling nature and the spirit which started the forum.

I like to say things you can't say anywhere else...but there is a level of moderation that needs to take place.

Some posts are nothing more than trolling fun; some are just worthless.  People need to learn the difference and call it out.  Those that do it should be shunned.

Being new here, I really appreciate the advice that has been given by many and I also appreciate the humor.

Thanks for providing the forum and thanks for the podcasts. Just received some dry fire targets and the book "Dry-Fire Training" from the pro shop. Love it.

I'd be glad to see the new direction take hold.  I talked to you about this at Illinois Sectional last year.

I find this forum continues to deliver the same experience it has always done, and that keeps me coming back.
It is unique...
It is a site where you certainly can pick up all kinds of excellent pointers about shooting along with all sorts of filth and humor.
I continue to learn about shooting from the forum.
This forum is exactly what one would expect from a site called doodie project.
Why have it be something else?
I am proud to be a doodie.... I say keep on keepin on...

A little disappointed with king doodie. You seem to be a smart dude. That post of yours was lame. You without a doubt are highly respected here. It read like much of the forum is beneath you now.... What gives with that? Why even admit that about ignoring others here... Why blow off members who contribute here in any form.

I could not agree more. I was not aware there was an ignore button and it will be put to use to block those assholes who contribute nothing but dribble and vitriolic nonsense.

I'm weary of over-moderation for all the best reasons.

I'm interested first in shooting more gooder. A little ass-hattery is fun, better IMHO when clever and not malicious or bigoted.

I find the peer pressure to conform to certain norms on a basically unmoderated forum to be quite interesting from a human behavior perspective.

I find the pressure that this forum can exert 'for the powers of good' to be rather interesting as well.

All forums evolve, the question is how to steer an unmoderated forum in the intended direction.

I doubt that's it.

Probably more due to a mismatch between how he thought members would organize and conduct themselves without rules vs. how they actually did.

The place started with a VERY Laissez Faire presumption that the membership would police themselves and create a more shooting-focused culture. It's done better than I expected, but not as well as I would have hoped in the regard.

I joined recently because I find some of the tomfoolery here entertaining. I do tend to get the serious stuff out of my system at the Enos forum. I come here in the evenings to laugh after watching my hockey team lose. That said, I'd check the forum at lunch if there was less NSW stuff.

With all due respect, Ben, you're the most qualified person here to inject more signal and improve the ratio. The threads where you did so have become valuable threads.
This is a heavily competition oriented board, and I think many of us C class shooters, who do and try sharing whenever they can, are largely out of our element in competition oriented topics.
If this site wants to get rid of crap, then the accomplished, motivated and result driven members simply have to post more constructive or thought generating content.

P.S. Perhaps I reiterated what you already said in your post. Long day.

Well I may get harassed for this post, but I just finished shooting my last sanctioned match of the season this past weekend. I've been working really hard on coaching a group of local shooters this year. Practice days vary from three to eight shooters attending. After the local matches, we'd leave a couple of the most technical stages up and spend a couple of hours breaking down why they didn't perform up to their potential on them (followed by a good meal and several pitchers of margaritas of course).

These shooters range from 17 to mid-50's in age. From skinny and fast to old and fat with bad knees. This past weekend, SIX of them got 1st in their respective classes at the Stars and Stripes IDPA Regional. Three of them got bumps to the next higher class. For three of them, it was the first time they ever got a 1st place win. Every one of them have made substantial gains in their match performance over the year. I couldn't be prouder of them.

Yeah, it's just IDPA and the rules are still fouled up. It doesn't matter, we're all having fun and we're all shooting better than we were before. I can't hate on anyone doing that, regardless of the game they play.
