I think I've said this before but I think a fair tradeoff for those who don't want GMs eligible for prizes would be that GMs don't pay match fees.  I'd trade all future prizes for waived match fees.

But not having a plaque for the division champ is kind of messed up if they are handing out high-whatever-class wood instead of recognizing the actual winner.

Or just get rid of the class system entirely.

I wouldn't miss it.

I think it has some value as a carrot to train and get better, and it also has a little value as a way to evaluate my performance against shooters I don't personally know, but giving awards in some kind of handicap system seems pretty dumb.

woot woot, you are the least sucky of the guys that didn't practice enough to not suck. Hooray!

Match fees are up because of demand and clearly it's still what the market will bear, because your ass paid for it and the match was full. Not because they want to give sick prizes. If you don't like it, don't pay.

If you don't like the award schedule, don't go.

I think one sore point is that nobody knew this was going to happen until it was done.

Especially for an Area match where it often moves between clubs and rarely is in the same place two years in a row, saying people will know for next time is not helpful.

The MD followed USPSA rules to a T. Which after reading appendix A2 in the rulebook, there is no stipulation stating how awards must be given. So who is to say that the MD fucked it up? You?

Swingergate also wasn't against the rules, but it doesn't mean it wasn't a fuckup.

Just because it isn't forbidden in the rulebook doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. The attitude that the rulebook is the sole arbiter of what is allowed as a competitor during a COF doesn't translate to the idea of what's the right thing to do as a person at the match. Awards have been given the same way for years, and changing things for no real reason seems like a fuckup.

The rulebook doesn't state either way. As far as I can tell its up to the MD to choose how awards are given.

Area 2 did it the same way to the best of my knowledge. So its not just one MD.

Awards = Stage Inspection.

Seems about right.

I agree.  The class system is USPSA Socialism.  Is ANYONE really that concerned about a plaque?  Recognize the DIVISION winners and everybody else needs to STFU.  No 4th M, 8th C bullshit.  Prize tables by random draw.

For those of us who are sober, WTF happened?

Class "winners" got wall art and all logical people agree that's dumb.

So a division winner didn't get a decoration; was that because there were less than 3 people in the division or because Area 1 hates this division (single stack?)?

I want to be angry about this and see it as a failure, just trying to understand what happened.

Split prize table, half random, half straight finishing order.  Delete class system.  Done.

IPSC has no classes to speak of and no prizes and they are doing great.

Its why US IPSC Nationals is such a raging success.
