Don't you love topics that have no definitive answer? Yea, this is one of those...

So at the beginning of the year, I decided I wanted to try USPSA. I did a bunch of reading on the interwebs, (instead of the USPSA rulebook).

l just wanted a gun that I didn't have to hassle with, one that just ran. So the smart money said get a G35, and shoot Production with a drop in 9mm barrel. So I got a G35, and run it with a KKM conversion barrel, and TTI sights. It works great. Eats the cheapest Russian ammo, decent accuracy, and almost never bobbles.

But - as you all well know (and I know now), you can't shoot a G35 in Production with 9mm... And all the guys on the PPS say that's where the heat is, whatever that even means.

I've got a nice rig, all the mags I need, and I like my G35, so I'm going to get either a G17 or a G34. The question is, which one?

Not having a G17, I'm wondering if it's easy to hit with as the G34, or is the extra length worthwhile?

Don't tell anybody this but I had Glocks once, including 17s and a 34. Get the 34 because it even claims its for uspsa. Otherwise every time you fuck up with a 17 you will wonder how different your life would be if you had a 34.

Sometimes in life you have a choice - a fork in the road that leads you down one path or another - that really sets the course of your future.

This isn't one of those times. It practically makes no difference. But mentally it might. If you're the kind to wonder what if just get the 34 and close that sidetrack down.

Unless you have a secondary use for the new gun, beyond gaming, go for the most gamer gun you can get.  Between your two choices, that is the 34.  More sight radius, and a little extra barrel to squeeze more velocity out of those little 9mm, and already has the extended gamer mag release.

The real fork in the road, is buy a whole other gun, and set one up for production, and set your 35 up for ghetto limited, or just get a 34 top end to drop on the frame you have?

I started with a 35 because 40 and I carried a Glock 40. Shot 1 USPSA match then got a 34 and shot IDPA a while. Then back to USPSA. Then I came to my fucking senses and bought a Stock 2 in 9mm and sold the 34 and 35.

Cut to the chase. You know it's what you really want.

Get a Lim Pro in 9mm if you want to swing both ways for a while.

Buy a used 17 because they're half the price of a 34 so you'll be less invested when you drop that plastic turd for a real gun.

All of you are wrong. He needs to buy a 1050 with Mark 7 and load ,40 minor. That's the best route. Screw spending money on gats. Real ballers invest in their reloading press.

Shoot 40 minor for matches and 9mm w/ your conversion barrel for practice. Use the money saved on a new gat to buy a 650 or Hornady LNL AP. Because no self respecting reloaded shoots shitty Russian blammo.

This is literally one of the few threads that does have a definitive answer!  Outstanding gentle troll - generated many earnest responses!  The part about using the cheapest possible Russian ammo and therefore almost having no malfs - way to cut into the wave!  That definitely raised the troll factor score!

Gay question.

Join the GSSF for $25 and use the Pistol Purchase Program to get $88 off the G34

Shoot the Dot drill with what you have until your new shit comes in.

Thank you everyone - sounds like G34 is the way to go. And a 1050.

And about getting a real gun - don't think I'm not tempted. Many years ago, in the early 90's, I thought I was going to get into USPSA. At the time Leathem was god, and a comped .45 was the shizzle. I sent off one of my 1911's to a dude in Ohio (who shall remain nameless), who ended up taking 2.5 fucking years and over $2800 bucks to turn a POS SA 1911 into a dinosaur .45 race gun.

Everyone else had moved on to .38 super, and the 3 year wait left a bad taste in my mouth.

So this time, I thought, don't get hung up on the gun, start with a glock, and actually become a damn shooter.

In a moment of weakness, I called Tim at the pro shop and asked him why can't I put a CZ in my cart - and he tells me he'll call when the shadows are back in stock.. I sort of hope he calls, and I hope he doesn't...
