ASI’s founders all have 20+year backgrounds in semi-pro practical shooting competition. That’s an intense, high-skill world that’s ill-suited to the “average gun owner.” We’ve brought the match production and safety processes learned there into ASI, but reduced the intensity and technical demands, resulting in a casual sport which we’re sure you will love.

Okkkaaaayyyyy...........

Yeah, some of the clubs here do it. It is basically that, a dumber version of IDPA. I dislike its existence quite a lot.

So it's like the special olympics of practical shooting?

A vehicle for the average gun owner to get a prize while still sucking?

Anything with "international" in the name is ponzi scheme.

How About Holsters?

Holsters are optional. Shooters who’ve been cleared to use a holster by the host range can start with a loaded gun in the holster, but most shooters start each stage with their pistol on a table, on the ground, or other position specified in the stage briefing.

------

Sounds awesome.

Apparently to ensure it's friendly and relaxed they don't use nasty 'hit-factor' scoring. They use 'hoot-factor'. You tell the scorer how awesome you were and he gives you the score you think you deserve.

When they bring in pcc the hoot-factor will be off the charts!

Positives:

Use pretty much any caliber sans 500 s&w
They realize open is gay so no optics or comps
No vest
Load as much or as little ammo as you want
8 page rule book
No power factor
No mag retention rules
Prop malfunction = reshoot (no popper fucking)

It's not all bad.

Apart from hoot factor scoring they have another innovation.

If your gun goes down during a stage you get a reshoot. Great for open shooters. They are strict though in that you only get to reshoot once. If your gun goes down again the sadly it will be scored as shot.

You also get a reshoot if:

"the Range Officer and the Match Director concur on special circumstances for granting a reshoot, not otherwise covered elsewhere in the rules. "

Translation: 'reshoot if you complain hard enough or if your friend is running the match'

"6.2.

The Range Officer stops the shooter for a suspected safety problem. (Examples: the shooter
forgets to put on their hearing protection, the Range Officer suspects a barrel blockage, or a
child wanders onto the range, etc.)"

...maybe their match atmosphere is a bit too relaxed.
