05/26

Practice/ sight in
5 plates spaced 5’ apart - 12”, 6”, 15”, 6”, 10” with 1’ difference in elevations @ 25 yards

9mm L frame revo:
49 rounds
6” plates gave me a little trouble at first
My 115gr Steel Challenge load hit POA and recoil was acceptable

38sc N frame with DPP:
48 rounds
The dot sure makes accuracy at speed easy (if I do good trigger pulls)
160 grain loads had the most enjoyable recoil

9mm Ruger PCC:
150 rounds
Added another 1/2” spacer to the stock (I like it)
Transition are more consistent & faster L - R (opposite of pistols for me)

Victory .22 with DPP:
150 rounds
I haven’t touched this gun since last summer, WOW I forgot how fun and FAST it is!

Observations:
With my middle finger on my strong hand being jacked up, I’m unable to shoot Glocks without a distracting level of pain. I had a really good time playing with some different guns. Next weekend I have a big charity Steel Challenge match that I’m registered to shoot production, if this finger doesn’t improve I may need to switch division to gun that doesn’t inflict pain.

05/27

Practice
4 12” plates with 10” middle plate spaced 5’ apart @ 12 yards

RFPO:
+- 400 rounds
Best time 1.72 seconds, most strings sub 2 seconds.
Had my first malfunction ever with this gun that finished my session, my first assumption was it was just getting dirty. Nope the extractor is gone!

Fuck me!

Took a big shop floor magnet out to my range and unbelievably I found all three parts extractor, plunger, and spring. All the parts look fine so I disassembled the gun and cleaned it all up real pretty (was VERY dirty). I’ll function test it tomorrow. Because nothing is worn or broken, I’m thinking because of it being so dirty caused a double feed and if the extractor is over extended it can pop out. The only thing holding it in place is the spring and plunger. This whole ordeal was a bummer, but at least it was at home not a match.

05/28

Practice:

5 plates, 6”, 6”, 12”, 10”, 12” spaced 5’ apart with elevation difference of one foot.

3” .22 rimfire J frame
80 rounds @ 12 yards
Observations:
This is my only other rimfire so I wanted shoot it, always good to test your backup. Obviously a little slower than the RFPO but I could at least finish the match if needed.

Gen3 30sf
100 rounds @ 12 & 25 yards surrender draw
Observations:
POI is high with my 230gr load, 200gr loads is dead on.
Best time @ 12 yards was 2.76, most in the very low 3 second range
Best time @25 yards was 3.82, most around 4 seconds
It took a lot of discipline to to slow down enough to transition from a 12” to a 6” plate.

05/29

Practice:

Open paper & 12” plate spaced 20’ apart @ 35 yards

G30sf low read starts
70 rounds

Observations:
Shooting 2 shots on paper then 1 on steel.. I wasn’t pushing 100% speed, but probably a little faster than I plan on shooting GSSF this year. Fun quick little drill, ended up with 7 close charlies & 4 makeups on the Steel.

05/30

Testing:

Ruger PCC
62 rounds
Tried a new 31 round magazine- no problems
Mounted a comp- it doesn’t eliminate the recoil mainly because of the reciprocating mass of the bold, but does improve the overall shoot ability. Firing 2 shots @ 15 yards as fast as I can pull the trigger puts the second shot within 2” of the first.

Steel Challenge match:

Production
1st in division
3rd center fire
4 personal best times
dropping my total by 7.43 seconds

RFPO
3rd in division
4th rimfire

Observations:
Awesome match! Good lunch and a RAD prize table.
RFPO didn’t go as well as I hoped only being 5.06 seconds faster than my production time, but I can’t really complain for my first time shooting this division. Production went Very well, 4 out of the 6 stages ended up being personal bests. It’s kind of a bummer times don’t get sent in, but this match raises $ for a great charity and that’s far more important.

I did the math for my production times for this match
107 speed option 87%
101 5 to go 78%
106 pendulum 80%
105 accelerator 83%
108 round about 76%
103 smoke & hope 83%

06/03

ISSA match

PCC irons
1st in division (only shooter in division)
3rd overall

OSR
1st in division (only shooter in division)
11th overall
4th center fire

Observations:
I had a blast! It was really fun to try different stages. PCC felt kind of awkward, but I’m glad I gave it a try. It would take a considerable amount of effort to be competitive, and as of now I don’t want to take focus away from pistols. Revo went great considering I haven’t competed with one since September. I hope to spend more time in this division in the future.
This was the first match for this club and it shows great potential. I hope with time it grows, and I’m definitely going to do my best to support that.

06/10

Practice:

50 rounds

20 rounds on a 25 yard open paper shooting controlled pairs from the low ready. All A hits.
30 rounds on a 10” plate @ 50 yards. 29 hits.

06/15

Practice:

RFPO
325 rounds

Round About
Fastest string was 1.78, lots of strings at 2.05 but most around the 2.2 second range.

Round About @ 35 yards
Fastest string 2.45, average was 2.7 seconds

Shot some 5 shot stings on 1 plate @ 10 yards, just to see what kind of splits I could get .15 to .16 seems to be as fast as my finger moves.

5 12” plates right next to each other @ 12 yards
Fastest string 1.50, average strings 1.8 second range (this would have been faster if the plates were at the same elevation)

06/17

Steel Challenge match:

Production 1st main match, 1st in division

RFPO 2nd rimfire, 2nd in division

Observations:
I shaved 2.31 seconds of my production total bringing my classification percentage to 77.38 (according to my math)
Dropped my RFPO time by 5.87 seconds, I’m guessing that will be somewhere in B class. The only other match I shot this division didn’t submit times so....

The big news is l CURB STOMPED smoke & hope in production with 96.33% !!!!!
That is definitely the way I like to finish a match, on a high note.

06/22

Practice:
100 rounds with the gen3 17
Open paper @ 35 yards, low ready start 2 shot strings.

Observations:
This was just a little tune up before tomorrow’s GSSF match. I shot at my match pace and ended up with 2 hits in the C zone. I’m happy with that, and pretty confident about doing what I need to do tomorrow.

GET SOME!!!!!

Well I did get some.....self loathing, shame, and heart break.

I’ll do a full write up after scores get posted, who knows maybe just the bad stuff is in my head and there’s a glimmer of proficiency.

GSSF match
Gen3 17 & Gen3 30sf

Competition
1st place
63.55

Guardian
1st place
56.15

Major sub
2nd place
56.57

Sub compact
2nd place
91.71

Unlimited
2nd place
78.41

Heavy metal
21st place
148.76

Observations:
The ride home was unending torture thinking of the fuckups I had, but maybe I was too focused on self ridicule. Almost no sleep and heavy rain really affected my mental program. If everything had been optimal I think 1st place non-master in all six divisions would have been possible. I’m thinking this match put me into master, which is very cool because of it being one of my season goals. But now the work really begins, I won’t win shit with times like this from now on.
Things I learned:
Wet ammo picks up contamination from the bottom of your range bag and causes malfs.
No need to show up early, it doesn’t get things over faster. Registration starts at 9:00 not shooting.
Shoot major sub last!!!! It’s the only division with 1 shot per paper target (that I shoot)
Don’t load 7 rounds in all 4 mags for major sub at the plates! Just the starter mag.
Write division on score sheets, so you can calculate your scores when you get home.
DON’T start on the plates!

Steel Challenge classification update:
Production 77.38%
FRPO 71.59%

The steel challenge match this weekend has been canceled, so I’ll put in some heavy practice. I do have a ISSA match Sunday that should be fun.

06/30

Testing:
Gen4 MOS 17 with DPP
204 rounds

Observations:
Needs grip tape.... big surprise. I put in a minus connector and 11lb recoil spring. My 115gr Steel load shot great except for a high percentage of brass hitting the dot. I’m going to test different loads to try and eliminate that, but I’m not going to chase a hopeless goal in that regard. The one true fact I have learned from dicking with Glocks this season has been that ejection is erratic and probably has a lot to do with the alignment of distant stars plus voodoo.

06/30

Testing:
Gen4
100 rounds

Tried some different loads, 125 blue bullet with 3.2gr of WST & Fed 200 primer. This load was rather accurate and I’ve got 4000 to use up...so win win.
I’m going to shoot my Gen3 production gun and the new carry optics Gen4 at the ISSA match tomorrow.
