Tell your horror stories here. I'm just curious what kind of Open/Limited/custom guns you have seen fail regularly.

STI factory guns, because tons of noobs buy them to go fast, but don't understand what all is involved in getting a 2011 to run.

Wow, I see the broken gun so that is one thing, but damn, look at all the tool marks on that gun. That's what 5k gets you? Fuck that.

I have seen a few guns not run. Most from one guy who likes to buy guns from any new hotness on Enos. I am pretty sure his terrible reloading practices could make any gun builder look bad. Most recently he made a FGW choke and ditched it for a Predator Tactical. Neither worked worth a damn.

Watched an Akai crap out, dude said it was dirty, cleaned it, it ran fine after that. Credit to Akai for building too tight of a gun.

Watched a boatload of factory STI's crap out.

Squaded with a couple guys at the Indiana state match that had choking guns. One was a new kid using factory ammo in a custom build from some dude who is suppose to be a badass with the government. The other had and open gun built by someone(?) It fucking choked and he talked pretty heavily with a vendor who was there to build him a new gun.

A lot of problems are probably from shitty ammo. I shoot a CZ TS and now have to case gauge ammo because the chamber is a hell of a lot tighter than the Glock I used to shoot. I didn't do it when I started shooting the gun and I locked it up twice during locals.

I would like to take this opportunity to say FUCK YOU to Stegger. Fucking asshole practically forced me to buy a hundo because I am to lazy to individually chamber check ammo in my barrel.

What noobs fail to understand is that most factory STI guns will run great if they would just leave them the fuck alone.

Nope.

Dude at our club bought the gun used. Slide cracked within the first month or so. Sent it back to Johnny and paid for a new top end. The barrel actually broke off where the threads start on the barrel. You could see where the slide was hammering the comp. Failure was inevitable.

Bottom gun is another Limcat with a cracked slide.

Both 9 major guns.

Most of the hard broke guns I see are 9 major.  They just self destruct it seems.

Why did he pay for a new top end?

What were the tolerances on the slide / comp?

Exactly. You shouldn't have to pay but this was his first "custom" gun and I don't think he knew any better. What makes matters worse, he had the gun converted to .40 open and had to pay for the new barrel.

Tolerances on the slide/comp were zero. Contact in all sorts of spots. It looks nice to have a seamless fit but if you initially set the gap at .003", it'll be at least half that when the gun is broken in.

It just doesn't make sense that Johnny would make him pay for a new top end, especially if the failure wasn't user error.

So what gap are comps initially set?

You would think so.  Unless you saw a lot of them on a regular basis.

Buying one from one of the places that will actually look at and shoot it before slapping a shipping label over STIs and throwing it back in the mail is worth it.

Why .40 open? That seems ridiculous.
